The Nave App

Why Nave isn't launching an app — and why our PWA is better for everyone.

One of my favorite questions I get is, "When is the Nave App going to be available in the App Store?"

Because it allows me to use one of my favorite possible answers. "Aww, heck no..." (And that's when I am on my good-behavior and don't want to contribute to my kids' 'swear jar')

You see, we believe our approach extends beyond just Nave. And an App Store-approved app is yet another game that we just don't want to play. And we have our reasons.

There are significant fees for the pleasure of having an 'app'. And that pleasure is up to 30% of ALL the transactions in the app…job deposit, monthly subscriptions…everything. That adds up to a lot pretty quickly. It would potentially force us to change our pricing to accommodate it. Which means you'd pay more. We'd get less…and someone else is profiting from all of us.

And that's the cycle we're trying to break here, folks.

So no, Nave is not launching an app.

But…because we're cool, hip, pretty great with computers and coding, and otherwise fantastically smart people on a mission to change things (at least that is what we think about ourselves), we have what is called a PWA (Progressive Web Application) available to put on the Home Screen of your phone/tablet/watch, just like an app.

And it works just like an app would, just like the site does on your computer/iPad/laptop/Blackberry/Palm Pilot/Newton (ok, some of those show we're not kids anymore), just like you want. It's very slightly different, but prevents a cut of money going to some other business for no reason.

Our PWA never needs updating, it's never an old version because you ignored the update (we do that too!). It's us, live and in real-time, on your Home Screen, not giving 30% to the powers that be.

This is not to say we don't like those companies. We do. We buy their things all the time. We are using their tools right now! But we think there should be a line in the sand, one where companies like us and people like you don't have to donate 30% just because. That doesn't fly with us, we hope you're ok with that too.

We'll be back later with detailed explanation on how to download Nave to your phone/device as a PWA. Feel free to look up how to do it on your if you're impatient, that's cool too. But short answer, no, there is no Nave App. You won't find us there. But you found us here…and this is where our app-experience comes from.

Please be aware, we're keen on getting all of these unnecessary charges off the books, whether ours, yours, or theirs. This isn't lip-service to fees and costs that are antithetical to what the internet was supposed to be (did we mention that we were there for that too? Yeah, we're really not kids…anymore). This is us being really serious, really grumpy about greed, and really honest with you all about why we make decisions.

Transparency matters. You matter. And making the home services world better, equitable, accessible, and easier matters.

Thanks for everything!
